Chloé Fall 2010

Yes I'm a Chloé girl.  Love it all.  Want it all.

Chanel Fall 2010

I thought that Karl's idea of clogs would never take off, but everyday I see women sporting that awful footwear out on the street.

Will people really take to fur as ferociously as Karl wants them to come fall?

I did adore the setting though!

Undecided..

Exciting news!!

I have received accreditation to attend L'oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival which commences in only a couple of days to do some reporting and photography for my blog!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got the email yesterday and I was running around the house like mad!!  Over the next few days I will know my schedule.

But what am I going to WEAR!!!  I know my YSL boots will get their first outing, and I have a lot of accessories that I will debut, but otherwise I have no idea!

So much for my shopping detox, I think I need to go shopping for a few new season pieces.

Some of the ideas swirling through my LMFF imaginary wardrobe are... s&b rats.. loose tanks/tees, vests, statement necklaces/cuffs/bangles/oversized watches/cocktail rings... I also want a dress thrown in there somewhere!

The big difference with LMFF is that it's also open to the public, with tickets available to be purchased for some events.  Obviously there's pros and cons with that but sometimes it's nice to make it accessible to the public and make it seem as though it's within our reach.

I also need to make up some cards for my blog and do it pronto... anybody have any ideas?

Bag Challenge

The lovely Semi Expat tagged me to show my bag and the contents.  She's one of the first blogs that I followed - very lovely and stylish lady indeed!  Thank you x

So here's my bag... Missoni that I've had for about 4 years now and rotate a fair bit.  The inside is a gorgeous silk whereas the outside is sort of a velvet finish, so B calls it the carpet bag! LOL  I love the woven strap, which can be removed.

Apologies for using my iphone, I'm much too lazy today to put together my SLR.

As for the goodies inside...

  • Prada sunnies and their case
  • a pen
  • a Moleskin diary
  • wet wipes/tissues
  • Fendi wallet which I got from the Fendi store at Bangkok airport, where I was stuck for 14 hours on my way back from Europe in August 2008
  • a pretty notebook for writing down my thoughts and lists
  • a virtually empty bottle of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle EDP, also bought in Bangkok
  • a Scanlan & Theodore receipt
  • a ticket for the ferry from Devonport to Auckland CBD
  • a Dior Rouge Creme de Gloss in 351 - a pinky/peach which I wore on our wedding day
  • a Dior Lip Maximizer
  • Mac lipstick in Warm Me Up
The bag is also missing my iphone of course, which was used to take the photos!

I'd like to pass this onto 3 other lovely bloggers.  Make sure you check them out!

Auckland - New Zealand

As I've previously mentioned, last week I went to Auckland for some volunteer working that I am doing.  I've spent a lot of spare time (and time that isn't so spare) on various projects and something like this makes it all so worthwhile.

I had zero expectations but the city and the people I came across were so lovely, as was the weather.  Other than a bunch of documents, I took one spare dress and some underwear and toiletries with me!  A really, really fuss free few days.  I feel very blessed to have had the experience.

Here's a few photos, we only had a few spare hours which we used to go on a quick drive and a trip to Auckland museum which had some lovely art and artifacts, like the beautiful Tiki's that I've posted at the end.

Balmain & Balenciaga Fall 2010

What's fashion week without obsession about what these two of-the-moment houses are showing?

Balmain is still leather, still minis, still sequins, still sexy. And I want those boots.

Balenciaga was unusual as usual... futuristic, sickeningly thin models (for the attention and publicity no doubt) and lots of pastels.  A step away from the wool and fur of the other shows.

Decadence: Desserts by Philip Johnson

Philip Johnson is my favourite chef from my favourite restaurants in the world - E'cco Bistro in Brisbane.  Whenever I am visiting my parents and it's a special occasion I jump at the chance to eat there.  I am going again in two weeks!

"e'cco, a modern Australian bistro, is located on the city fringe of Brisbane's CBD. The bistro brought new life to a historic tea warehouse in a once un-fashionable district near the Story Bridge end of the City. When Philip Johnson took over the site, the ground floor was completely refurbished as a smart but unpretentious space, the perfect showcase for his distinctive cooking style... "

The menu is exquisite! The flavours are extraordinary together and are presented amazingly but without fuss.

One of the biggest regrets with my life style is that I do not have time to cook anything other than the wretched "quick dinners"... a stir fry or similar. However, with the long weekend coming up, apart from catching up on some readings, I am intending to cook... a lot!  French toast, scones, a roast and of course a lovely dessert.

Good timing then that the long-lusted-after Philip Johnson dessert book  Decadence has just arrived.  I maybe on a shopping ban, but not a book ban!

There are 90 outstanding dessert recipes in this amazing book.  I'm making the semifreddo from the cover tomorrow!

Another never fail favourite recipe of Philip's is the Breakfast Trifle.

Serves 6

200g (2 cups) rolled oats

250ml (1 cup) apple juice

200g chopped rhubarb

100g caster sugar

1 granny smith apple, peeled, cored and quartered

500g fresh strawberries, hulled

3 tsp honey

125g (½ cup) Greek-style natural yoghurt

150g fresh blueberries

Greek-style natural yoghurt, extra, to serve

20g (1/3 cup) shredded coconut, toasted, to serve

Put the oats and the apple juice in a bowl, mix well, then cover with plastic wrap. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour, or overnight, to allow the oats to soften.

Put the rhubarb, sugar and 100ml water in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Bring to the boil then reduce and simmer until the rhubarb is tender. Add the apple and continue to cook until the apple is tender but still holds its shape. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool.

Mash half the strawberries with the honey, then stir into the soaked oats with the yoghurt. Slice the remaining strawberries.

Divide half the oat mixture into six serving glasses, and top with half the sliced strawberries, blueberries and rhubarb mixture. Repeat with the remaining oat mixture, berries and rhubarb mixture. Top with a spoonful of yoghurt and sprinkle with the toasted coconut.

Existance of Feminism?

After the Fall 2010 Prada show Miuccia Prada called herself a former feminist. "Feminism?" she said, "[I]t doesn’t really exist anymore, does it?"

A feminist is someone who believes in social, political and economic equality for women.

Most normal women, sensing the vileness under the facade, refuse to call themselves feminists, which is a sad thing, since the original goal of the early feminists was to promote women not destroy masculinity, and that's not anything to be ashamed of.

Do you still believe in the idea of feminism?

Magazine crazy... Vogue Australia April 2010 & more

I've gone magazine crazy, even though I vowed to cut down as I've pretty much given up on shopping for a few months.  The worst thing is that I virtually have no time to read any of them!  I need a rainy weekend in bed to catch up I think.

The latest editions:

Not a MC reader, but this cover with VB looks amazing.. Now where's that rainy weekend...

And the winner is... SILVERBEIGE!

I've just returned from the most wonderful trip to New Zealand, but I am so behind at work, with university work, fashion week and blogging!  I have an essay due on Friday so everything else will have to wait :(

I can't wait to write about the wonderful experienced I had over in NZ, it was my first time and I was really pleasantly surprised.

Now, first thing is first.  I know I promised to announce the winner on March 1, but the trip came up after the promise was made, so here I am.

I wrote the numbers 1 to 10 on little slips of paper (1 being the first comment on that post, 10 being the last) and number 9 came up, so, congratulations silverbeige.
