As I've mentioned previously I catch two trams to work and two trams home. We really have been spoilt for warm weather in Melbourne lately so I sometimes catch only one tram home and walk the other route. Today I walked (half) of the Chapel Street route to check out some of my favourite stores up the other end of the Street, like TL Wood, White Suede etc and go into JB to get another copy of Amelie, as I cannot find my original copy.
I bought B a set of golf clubs the other week, so I am now a golf widow - he plays every chance he gets! I had hoped to use tonight's me time to plan some meals, list some things on eBay, do some washing... but instead I am catching up on NYFW, watching recorded olympic coverage and eating Isleri... oooops.

Isleri are naughty Serbian biscuits with a cream hazelnut filling, smothered in chocolate. YUM!

The most popular thing on this blog, since I started to update my blog regularly, has been the Sportsgirl Eiffel Tower brooch. I got lots of lovely emails and comments about it..

Anna versus Carine
Are these two women a complete mystery to everyone else as they are to me? Wouldn't you love to get inside their minds. I subscribe to US Vogue and peruse French Vogue at Borders about 3 months later and I cannot help but compare the huge contrasts between the two ladies. Granted they cater to different markets but they do both sell the dream to millions of women (and men) around the world.
You just have to look at the respective February 2010 covers to see the contrast. Carine is all fashion - Daria gracing the cover which features Kate Moss and Tom Ford. Anna is milking the celebrity with all her might. A very Ralph Lauren ad looking Jessica Biel and stories of mistresses, sex, valentine's day and what to wear on a date. Since when did Vogue start believing that you're a failure without a date for Valentine's?
And then you see these images!
Anna holding a crisis meeting in Paris (Carine's turf), trying to rescue the state of French fashion. And you realise just how powerful she is.
Anna looks like the bride and Carine like the bridesmaid.

I've had such a busy week - between friends, work and the winter olympics I've neglected Fashion Week.
My one and only saviour has been the style.com iPhone application that I've used to stay up to date as I've been travelling to work and walking down the street.
I stuggle with winter - I am not a cold weather person at all (unless I am in NYC, when nothing bothers me!) and I'm ever increasingly disappointed with fall collections which provide me zero inspiration for staying warm. I do realise that fashion was never meant to be practical, but darn it, it sometimes should be!
Marc Jacobs is the king of layering and I always turn to him for winter inspiration and I was pleased with the variations in his new collection.. there were heels and flats and boots, pretty dainty colours, girly dresses and also feminine power suits and fur coats. The entire set set was made out of cardboard - very cool! And the prime colour was gray. Double cool. We continue to see the trend in wearable clothes, even some critics call it safe, somebody has to buy it. There comes a point when fashion has to stop being mythical. There was enough shiny, unwearable trash in there to provide a decent balance.

Victoria Beckham Fall 2010
Love her or loathe her (I love her), Mrs Beckham's collection has been a standout during a somewhat slow start to NYFW.
Reportedly a cold person, who we know never smiles, she greeted all the editors as they came to the show, in contradiction to the other designers who are trying to to control the bedlam of backstage. She has spent time studying the art of design, as well as fabric, construction and cut.
In my opinion, there's not a bad dress in the whole collection and best of all, it's all wearable (even if very expensive and almost impossible to get a hold of!). It's suitable for work, a dinner or a red carpet event.

Lawson's Grove
Nestled amonst the high brow elite of South Yarra is Lawson's Grove Shop - a corner store turned cafe hidden amongst the cool Hollywood style apartments off Darling Street.
Don't be fooled by the narrow entry cramped with tables and chatter - it opens up inside to a lovely, mostly communal dining space.
The all day breakfast consistants of a simple menu, including gluten free muesli, pancakes, toast with home made jams as well as eggs with a myrid of choices of extras. I think it's a genius idea, much better than stuffing "big breakfast" plates that people pick at and don't finish. This way, you can choose exactly what you want and be sure to finish it, craving more!
I'm usually on team poached eggs, but yesterday I opted for crambled - honestly the best I've ever had. The eggs were light and fluffy and cooked to absolute perfection and they were seasoned mouth wateringly right. Yum.
Inside, the display cabinets were lined with wonderful cakes, pastries, muffins and tarts. The lemon is seriously recommended.
The crowd was an intimidating bunch - young singles and couples and those having finished a lap of the tan - the quinetessential South Yarra types. I overheard stocke broking conversations, saw keys to a Porsche and saw a lovely blonde clutching a Birkin.
Apart from the small portions it's a perfect place to enjoy the Sunday papers Sunday papers, relax and people watch.
